Choosing the perfect wedding photographer and videographer is about far more than pretty pictures and stunning footage, it’s about finding someone you truly connect with and enjoy being around. After all, they’ll be by your side throughout your entire wedding day (and even into the planning process), so it’s vital that you feel comfortable and even excited to have them around.

Though we at Honeycomb Films hope you choose us to capture your big day, we want to help educate and empower you so you can confidently choose the best team for you. Here’s what to ask, what to watch for, and how our approach stands out.

Build the Connection First

When you browse portfolios and pricing, ask yourself: Do I feel a connection with this person? Are they friendly, calm, and responsive? Will you enjoy being around them on one of the most important days of your life?

“From the first day we spoke, we knew Honeycomb was going to be our pick! … Katelyn was so kind, transparent, and welcoming that my phone/social anxiety practically melted away. … Most importantly, they kept us laughing! … Their quality and attention to detail are truly unmatched.”

That testimonial speaks to what truly matters. Your vendor’s personality and the client experience are just as important as their shots.

At Honeycomb Films, we aim to be more than vendors. We want to be friends you trust, people you depend on, and storytellers who truly know you. We’re right beside you from the timeline chat to the dress bustle to the last dance to your anniversary and beyond.

Why the Call & Consultation Matter

Book the team that leads confidently. The more guided, organized, enthusiastic your vendor is during the initial call or meeting, the smoother your entire process will be from planning to delivery.

  • If they ask questions, listen to your vision, explain their workflow, etc they’re showing you how they’ll support you all the way through.

  • If you feel like you’re leading them, you may feel unsupported later. Let your vendor lead the call. If they do, it shows professionalism, structure, and care.

Key Questions to Ask When Booking

Whether chatting with us or someone else, here are some questions I consider you asking or finding answers to on their website:

  1. What is your approach to working with other vendors? The best teams play well together. Your photographer, videographer, planner, DJ, and others should collaborate smoothly. See if they try to build a connection before the big day or check their instagram and see if they credit others for their work.

  2. Will you help shape the timeline? A thoughtful timeline ensures you’re not rushed, that key moments are captured, and that both photo and video teams know where to be and when, avoiding chaos.

  3. How do you handle unexpected issues on the wedding day? Mistakes, delays, or weather happen. What matters is how your team adapts calmly and proactively. The best issues on the wedding day are the ones the bride never knows about because her vendors were able to handle them seamlessly.

  4. How would you describe your shooting and editing style? Ask to see full galleries and films. Don't just listen for industry keywords, but make sure you truly understand not only the final product, but their approach to capturing it.

  5. What additional services do you offer beyond the wedding day?At Honeycomb we include content creation (vertical phone videos, social reels, behind-the-scenes clips) in addition to traditional photo and video. This gives you more ways to relive, share, and celebrate your day.

Here are additional questions couples frequently overlook and I encourage you asking during a Discover Call:

  • Do you send sneak peeks, raw footage (or any additions that you would be interested in not listed in the collection)?

  • How many weddings do you take each weekend?

  • Who will actually show up on our day? Is it you or an associate?

  • How many edited reels or verticals are included? (If booking Content Creation)

  • How would you describe the different in Videography vs Content Creation? (if they offer both)

  • How will we receive our files and how long will they be available?

  • Do you have insurance, backups, extra gear?

  • How does weather effect their work?

Content Creation Is a great addition

Many couples now ask about content creation, and some seem to think it is a great replacement for video. These vertical BTS videos are amazing, but they do not replace a full wedding film or photo collection. They serve a different purpose: movement, immediacy, social shareability. While content clips are fun and fresh, your wedding film remains the timeless legacy: vows, speeches, emotion, cinematic storytelling.

At Honeycomb Films, we provide full-day photo + video coverage and content creation. That means we capture the epic, the intimate, the quiet, the silly, the emotional in all formats and from all angles, so your day is preserved authentically and dynamically.

Price = Experience + Quality + Process

We know budget matters. But remember: quality doesn’t come from a minimal price tag. Price reflects experience of the company AND the client experience. When a vendor charges less, it often means less time, less support, fewer backups, or fewer deliverables. Investing more often means better gear, a dedicated team, years of experience and knowledge, higher quality, and a smoother experience. Your wedding film and photos will become your heirlooms so they deserve investment.
